Renowned geographer Prof. Jagdish Singh inaugurated the Geography Dept. of CUSB

GAYA(Bihar): The newly established Department of Geography of the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) was inaugurated in the presence of Eminent geographer Prof. Jagdish Singh at the auditorium located at the Vivekananda Lecture Complex of the University. Public Relation Officer (PRO) Md. Mudassir Alam said that on this occasion Prof. Jagdish Singh Ex-NAGI President & Former HOD, Department of Geography, DDU Gorakhpur University was present as chief guest along with CUSB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh.
Other eminent persons namely Prof. Pradhan Partha Sarathi (Dean, School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences), Prof. Kiran Kumar (HoD, Geography, CUSB) were present along with Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members and students of various schools of the University. With this inaugural programme the MA / MSc Geography course has been formally started in CUSB from the academic session 2022-23 and PhD studies will also start shortly, said the PRO.
Chief Guest Prof. Jagdish Singh delivered a lecture on the topic 'Paradigm Shift in Geography in the 21st Century' focusing on the different development dimensions. He also emphasized the importance of Geo-Spatial Management and it’s need of today’s Geographers to incorporate it, in the teaching and research activities for the welfare of the society. He also conveyed the message to the department to stay updated with the latest technological advances in the discipline.
At the outset in the presidential remark, CUSB VC Prof. K. N. Singh congratulated the Department for successful inauguration. He deliberated on the emerging challenges and issues of 21st Century and insisted the department to work on the welfare of the society and nation through geographic research. Further, he highlighted the significance of ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in research context.
The Inauguration Day program traditionally began with the lighting of the lamp followed by the presentation of the University Kulgeet by research scholar Pratika. Further, Head of Department Prof. Kiran Kumari gave the welcome address and after that the guests were felicitated.
Associate Professor Dr. Kiran Kumari Singh gave a detailed presentation about the Department of Geography. Dean Prof. Pradhan Partha Sarathi also addressed the gathering and wished the department all the best.
The stage was conducted by Dr. Sunita Singh with the technical support of Dr. Kiran Kumari Singh and Dr. Somnath Bera. Finally, on behalf of the Department of Geography, Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Rupesh Gupta. He conveyed heartiest thanks to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Chief Guest and obligation to all the staffs of university for their consistent cooperation, hardwork and selfless effort.
