Gaya jail undertrial prisoner dies in hospital

GAYA(Bihar): A 22- year-old undertrial prisoner, Mukesh Kumar, son of Dhanraj Yadav, a resident of Gambhari village under Fatehpur police station area, died at Gaya district ANMMC hospital during treatment on Sunday. He was lodged in prison in connection with the illegal trade of liquor last few months, said Jai Superintendent Vijay Kumar Arora here on Monday.
According to jail authorities, the inmate was initially taken to the prison hospital after he was having decreasing his oxygen level on Sunday. Later, he was referred to the district ANMMC hospital, Gaya as his condition started deteriorating. He died there during treatment. His body has been sent for a post- mortem, said Arora.
Jail superintendent Vijay Kumar Arora told MI that the inmate hailed from Fatehpur. He had been suffering from fever since two days back, while on Sunday his oxyge was found deteriorating continuously, according to the jail's doctor. Later he was sent to ANMMC hospital where he died late in the evening.
After getting information about the death of Mukesh Kumar, the other prisoners created ruckus inside the jail. There is even information that the kitchen items have been scattered.
At the same time, there is information about people demonstrating in front of the jail regarding this incident. Police has reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The prisoner Mukesh Kumar was sent to Gaya Central Jail in judicial custody since two months ago in case number 594/22 registered at Fatehpur police station.
According to the information received, the youth was admitted to Magadh Medical by the jail administration after his health suddenly deteriorated on Sunday, where the doctors declared him dead. As soon as the information about the incident was received, there was uproar among the family members.
The family members of the deceased youth allege that he died due to the negligence of the jail administration.
