    Barring some confusion in Gaya's Khijarsarai, 8 arrested, polling ends peacefully in Gaya

    GAYA(Bihar): An estimated 65.86 per cent voter turnout was registered in the civic body polls in Gaya's BodhGaya, Khijarsarai, Sherghati, Tekari, Imamganj and Wazirganj on Sunday, which ended peacefully. No untoward incident was reported, and no request for re- poll from any part of the district has been received and huge voters had cast their votes, said jointly District  Magistrate and District Returning Officer, Gaya Dr Tayagrajan SM and SSP Harpreet  Kaur here on Sunday evening. 

     

    Barring instances of confusion among voters regarding polling stations, cases of missing and shifted voters, overall polling in the elections to the Gaya Municipal Corporation concluded peacefully with good voters turning up to exercise their franchise on Sunday.

     

    Polling began at a very slow pace with only 7.73% voters casting their votes in the first two hours. Mostly senior citizens and women were among those who cast their votes early.


    Polling picked up pace after 9 a.m. and in the next two hours the polling percentage improved, voters casting their votes by 11 once again Improved and voters had cast their votes and it went up to more than 50% by 3 p.m. and in the next two hours it reached 65.86%.

     

    In Khijarsarai at least six police personnel included one sub Inspector Amarjit Chaudhary was injured in a clash between a group over an issue related to the local body elections here,said SSP  Harpreet Kaur.

     

    According to the information received through the Gaya's SSP Harpreet Kaur, the incident took place at Naubatpur within limits of Khijarsarai police station at 11 am when sub-inspector Amarjit Chaudhary, who was on patrolling with the armed forces on a motorcycle, meanwhile Vijay Kumar alias Vinay Kumar, along with his supporters outside his residential house near Nauvatpur, was talking to voters and threatening and intimidating people.  When Inspector Amarjit Chowdhary asked them to stop the such behavior, they all got entangled with the sub- inspector and injured him by hitting him on the head with a stone, and also completely damaged the butt of an armed jawan.  

    When the station in- charge Alok Kumar got information about this, he immediately reached the spot alongwith forces and brought the situation under control and also arrested 8 people in the same sequence, added SSP. 


    The arrested have been identified as Vijay Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Kumar, Polendra Kumar, Subash Kumar, Vipin Kumar and Ankit Kumar, said Alok Kumar Officer in- Charge.
