Water resources minister Sanjay Kumar Jha inspected the last phase of the most ambitious 'Ganga Water Supply Scheme in Gaya

GAYA(Bihar): Water Resources and Information and Public Relations minister Sanjay Kumar Jha visited Gaya and Rajgir on Wednesday and inspected the site of the last phase of works being done under the most ambitious 'Ganga Water Supply Scheme' and gave necessary instructions to the officials.
During his visit, the Secretary of Water Resources Department Sanjay Kumar Agarwal along with other senior officers and engineers were present.
Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha first reached Abagilla (Manpur) in Gaya district, where he inspected the state- of- the- art water purification plant built under the 'Ganga Water Supply Scheme' and reviewed the works of the scheme by visiting Brahmayoni water supply tank and other places of Gaya district.
In his visit in Gaya, he reviewed the preparations for the inauguration of the Mahabodhi Cultural Center in Bodh Gaya. Later Minister went to Rajgir from here, where he inspected te Gangaji Rajgriha reservoir. The water storage capacity of this huge reservoir built by the Water Resources Department is 9.915 MCM. Is. Water has been stored in this reservoir for water supply in Rajgir city. After this, he also inspected the water purification plant constructed in Rajgir.
It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's unique vision of using the flood water of river Ganga through pipeline to be used as drinking water throughout the year in Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir is going to be realized this month. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself will inaugurate the most ambitious 'Ganga Water Supply Scheme' in Rajgir on November 27, while in Gaya and Bodh Gaya on November 28.
Under this unique scheme of Nitish government, about 75000 houses in total 53 wards of Gaya city, about 6000 houses in total 19 wards of Bodhgaya city, while about 8031 houses in total 19 wards of Rajgir city have got 'Har Har' scheme for pure drinking water. 'Ghar Gangajal' will be supplied.
After reviewing the works of the last phase of the scheme, Minister Sanjay Kumar Jha said that probably for the first time in the country, flood water (surplus river water) will be taken to water-stressed cities and used as drinking water. Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's far-reaching initiative 'Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali' campaign, 'Ganga Water Supply Scheme' will ensure year-round availability of drinking water in cities facing water crisis, while the environment of the region will also have a positive impact. The scheme will be helpful in restoring the depleting ground water level and strengthening the environmental balance in Gaya city and surrounding areas.
He informed that state-of-the-art technology has been used in the construction of the structures of this very ambitious scheme. Under the scheme, the surplus Ganga water was lifted through the intake well-cum-pump house built near Rajendra Pul in Hathidah, through a pipeline of about 151 km, reached Bodh Gaya and sufficient storage of Ganga water was done in the reservoirs built there.
